This project was a collaboration between mala voadora and the British company Third Angel, centred around the fake things that people like or need to include in their lives. The sounds someone makes when they’re at home, available on CD. A company specialising in selling proof that you’ve been somewhere you haven’t. Suits put on photographs of the dead to appear in the newspaper. Donkeys painted in black and white stripes. Mourners. Replicas. Demonstrators for hire. Surgical operations to alter the lines of the hand.

First, we made a map of these true stories about false things – one for each country, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe – in a durational performance entitled story map. Then the stories were synthesised in the show What I heard about the world, with three narrators on a set with a giraffe, a cactus, an oriental vase, an aquarium and a marble column.
