Orgia reflects the concerns present throughout Pier Paolo Pasolini’s career. It is a contemporary tragedy about diversity and the dark and violent impulses that drive human beings. More than a play, Orgia can be defined as a poem for several voices, or a secular oratorio that expresses, between lyricism and declaration, the crisis of contemporary society, represented through an individual obsession. In the play, the mystery of fertility and the problems of identity meet the obsession with sex, an object of guilt and a means of knowledge: this is the delirium of a couple, a bloody orgy of words that finds its essence in the recognition of diversity. It is not, however, a pornographic or eroticized story. Orgia belongs to the realm of ideas: a theater of words, conjugated by flesh, which Nuno M Cardoso presents to us with Albano Jerónimo, Beatriz Batarda and Marina Leonardo.
