LEBRE – Lances of Hermes is a performance of the word as image-time, of philosophical hip-hop, of cabaret theater for digital citizens. The project takes as its starting point the idea that we are in an age of speed and communicability, which are attributes of the mythological figure of Hermes; from another perspective, it assumes a diagnosis of hermetic inflation, insofar as contemporary Western culture suffers from the manipulation of information, the dissolution of values, the commodification of culture and the arts. In this project, Alexandre Pieroni Calado and João Ferro Martins deepen their reflection on the present time by revisiting the Greco-Latin tradition, as they have already done in O Declive e a Inclinação – Fragmentos do mito de Sísifo and A Morte nos Olhos – about the myth of Perseus and Medusa. Now, Lebre – Lances de Hermes is an oratorio-downtempo that creatively investigates the ambiguous rise of Hermes in our time, especially the compulsive dynamism and accelerated dispersion of regimes of truth.
