We invited Miguel Loureiro to create a new show based on the speeches used in O decisivo na política… After these speeches had been juxtaposed to expose the type of rhetoric common to them, now, in Spitx, Loureiro proposes to “retreat from the public dimension of the speech, an ideological entity, to an imaginary projection of the intimacy of its author. Documentary material for fictional re-elaboration. To start from the few words produced at the time by Salazar, Mussolini, Allende and Bonaparte and turn what was previously rhetorical, circumstantial or merely factual into a fable.” The lives of the four statesmen are seen in the detail of their solitary gestures and manias, and their domestic life is fictionalised with the presence of a woman – perhaps an assistant, housekeeper or mistress.
