Robert Schenkkan is an American actor and writer known above all for his historical plays, including The Kentucky Cycle – a series of short plays awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1992. Over the course of 2 months, Robert Schenkkan developed a writing residency at the Flying Suitcase, during which the writer pursued several of his theater projects in development, including a contemporary adaptation of the play The Trojan Woman, for the Public Theater (NYC), and a new play about John Lynch for the New Southern Canon Project. The 2022 edition was also another important step in the development of mala voadora’s relationship with the New York drama scene. Previously with John Clinton Eisner and now with Robert Schenkkan, this relationship has proved fruitful. As a result of our dialogue with the playwright during his stay in Porto, a collaborative project has already developed: Schenkkan is writing a monologue to be performed by Jorge Andrade; he has proposed that we bring the Rooster of Barcelos to life.

This residency was supported by the Inresidence program of Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto, E.M., S.A
