Memorabilia is a revisiting of a year’s events, using only news headlines. Events are reviewed, as is customary at the end of each year: the most devastating disasters, the most decisive political facts, scientific advances, records, pink magazine intrigues, people who died, weddings, the most notable cultural events, etc. (We didn’t know at the time that this is how “revue theatre” was born and that “revue” has exactly this sense of review). The two characters who give us news of the events inhabit a small stage. Periodically, their task is interrupted by a chorus of female voices with a religious tone, and they go out to try to find the source of the sound. We chose to make this story of the more recent past on a set that evokes a slightly more distant past – an 18th century salon – and with costumes that evoke the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. We take stock of the course of history in the context immediately prior to the dawn of modern democracy.
