Dining Room Tales returns to Porto/Campilhas
Dining Room Tales: Acrobat with David Chong
Songwriter, psychologist and chef David Chong was born in Australia, the son of Chinese acrobats who were touring Australia at the time. They settled in Brazil when David was 6 years old, and David returned to his ‘native’ Australia as a non-English speaking 25 year old. David finds himself in the unique situation of being Australian by birth, Chinese by heritage and Brazilian by culture. Acrobat is his personal tale of the contemporary cultural mosaic: a high-wire dance across continents on the sounds of Brazil and the aromas of the world. The song of a circus son.
After almost 12 years sharing this work around Australia and the world, including emotional returns to Brazil and Hong Kong, David will share his Dining Room Tale in Portugal for the first time, featuring a new musical collaboration with local concertina specialist Tiago Candal.
Duration 2.5hrs approx
Maximum capacity: 18 pax
Led by Australian artist Xan Colman around the world since 2011, Dining Room Tales invites audiences to the table as co-creators of an intimate performance work by an artist who is preparing a meal for them. A social art practice that is motivated by slow time, social resilience, diversity of experience, and the nourishment of sharing food.
