ARTISTAS DOURO awards, through an open call, 5 grants to 5 artists from Porto, funded by Porto City Council.

Montar Corpo is a performance-installation that explores hybrid compositions between bodies and object-things, produced from diverse materialities — animal, synthetic, vegetal, industrial and artistic. Within the performance, the installative-choreographic environment is traversed by compositional procedures that involve collage, superimposition, coupling, assembly, disassembly, gesture, movement, pause and pose. The action is organised around the cyclical repetition of the performative gesture of assembling, moving as a thing, remaining, and dismantling — working with unlikely couplings that propel a becoming-thing and release subjects and objects from normative and instrumental logics.

Starting from the notion that bodies are not composed solely of organic matter, but produced within a complex web of material, discursive, historical, technological and relational interactions, Montar Corpo proposes an exercise in defamiliarisation — a process of queering that twists relations and meanings, establishing an ambiguous universe in which the boundaries between living and dead, animal and human, organic and inorganic, natural and artificial are blurred.

The body thus asserts itself as a performative, dynamic and contingent entity — in a permanent state of assembly.
