AN ENGLISH FAMILY 2018

AN ENGLISH FAMILY returns to mala voadora in 2018. AN ENGLISH FAMILY is an annual program, which achieves this year its fourth edition and that has an announced ending to 2020.

In 2018, between February 15th and 18th, the program presents:

I Could Go On Singing (Over the Rainbow), winner of Total Theatre Award for Emerging Artist and Autopsy Award: an intimate interactive live experience, in which FK Alexander sings live, with accompaniment from noise band Okishima Island Tourist Association and along with the last known recording of Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Story #1 by Greg Wohead (resident artist in mala voadora in 2017) and Rachel Mars (winner of Edimburgh's Total Theatre Awards in 2017): a reflective consideration of how and why we construct narrative, that explores where danger can poke through the narrative and intersect with the ‘real’.

- History, History, History by Deborah Pearson, multi award winning artist (with several Total Theatre Awards, for example): a documentary, performed live, in which Deborah explores the connection and the lack of connection between the private and the political, while projecting a full hungarian movie - whose protagonist is her grandfather - that was supposed to premier at the day the Hungarian Revolution started.

FK Alexander, Greg Wohead and Rachel Mars present their work for the first time in Portugal. Deborah Pearson has already presented for several times in Culturgest, but never in Porto. Besides these shows, the 2018 edition will have a artist residence: Xavier de Sousa, adapting his recent show, POST, to a portuguese postcolonial context.
