mala voadora

philatélie

A stamp collection was the starting point. Its iconography is both theme and visual protagonist of the show. The stamps – magnified and projected on a screen – start off by being an object of philatelic and historical analysis and later become agents of novelistic wanderings, including a recreation of the Portuguese arrival in Japan. The international nature of the stamps and the colonial background inherent to some of them refer to inter-cultural or trans-cultural thematics. The show is operated live by three people sitting around a table: one handles the stamps under the scope of a video camera; another one does the narration; another one operates sound machinery.
