AN ENGLISH FAMILY 2019 . MON€Y
MON€Y is a collaboration between mala voadora and the artist Deborah Pearson. You can watch two episodes of a sitcom being recorded. Like this, the theatre audience is placed in the situation in which the sitcom studios audience usually is: they watch the recordings, hear recorded laughs that appear to be theirs and are entertained, whenever the recordings pause, by an actor.
The sitcom’s first episode is perfectly canonical: it has a beginning, middle and end, complies with all prescriptions from manuals for this type of writing and it ends, aturally, with a news that creates suspense regarding what will happen next, in the next episode. These are the game rules.
The second episode also starts canonically, repeating first episode’s ingredients and punch lines that gets the audience to be familiar with the narrative and the characters, but the subject of money makes somethings go wrong – untill the show’s material collapse. All this happens because the scripter wants to reveal Plato’s cave.
